Swing Trading Guide

Holding across sessions

Swing trading generally studies price movements over multiple sessions rather than closing every position the same day. The intended holding period can vary; it is not a guarantee that a move will finish within a set number of days.

Match the observation period

Use consistent intervals when examining a trend, RSI and MACD. A daily observation and a short intraday observation answer different questions. Record which period supports each conclusion.

Overnight changes

News released when the market is closed can change the next available price. A planned exit level does not guarantee execution at that price. Corporate events and company announcements therefore matter alongside the chart.

Keep a research journal

Write down the hypothesis, evidence, contrary evidence and conditions that would invalidate it. Review both favourable and unfavourable examples. Historical patterns and simulated results do not ensure future returns.
