Intraday Trading Basics

What intraday means

Intraday trading refers to opening and closing a position during the same trading day. It differs from holding a position across sessions. Broker product rules, order handling and closing requirements must be checked directly with the broker.

Price data needs context

A daily indicator summarises daily observations and should not be mistaken for a live intraday signal. Check the chart interval and timestamp. A dashboard refresh does not itself prove that the underlying market data is live.

Understand costs and execution

Review brokerage, applicable charges, spreads and the possibility that an order fills at a different price from the one observed. Frequent trading can make these differences significant. Check the actual terms before placing an order.

A learning exercise

Observe a session without placing trades. Record a hypothetical decision, the information available at that moment and the later outcome. Include estimated costs and adverse price movements. A few favourable examples do not establish a reliable strategy.
